Commissioner Hahn:The drilling situation in the Eastern Meditteranean requires urgent deescalation not the opposite
CNA - Athanasios Athanasiou - Belgium/Brussels 09/07/2019 08:32

"The drilling situation in the Eastern Mediterranean requires urgent deescalation, not the opposite", EU Commissioner for enlargement Johannes Hahn, warned following the recent activity of the 2nd Turkish vessel in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Cyprus.

The Commissioner referred also to the official HRVP Mogherini statement on the situation, calling on the Turkish authorities, "once again, to refrain from such actions, act in a spirit of good neighbourliness and respect the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus in accordance with international law."

High representative Mogherini, earlier yesterday, recalled the conclusions of the European Council on 20 June 2019, stating that "Turkey`s continued actions have a serious negative impact across the range of EU-Turkey relations".
