CNA – Antonios Gkildakis - Cyprus/NICOSIA 20/01/2016 22:17

Cyprus is contemplating the possibility of asking the EU to include Turkish in its official languages, Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides has told the Cyprus News Agency.

Asked about relevant reports in the Turkish Cypriot press, Christodoulides commented that "the Republic of Cyprus, as an EU member state, is examining the possibility of asking EU institutions to add the Turkish language - which is an official language of the Republic of Cyprus - to EU languages".

The President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has asked relevant authorities of the Republic to look into this possibility, Christodoulides concluded.
