UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide has said that the focus now is how to move forward in the Cyprus reunification process and has conveyed a message by the UN Secretary General himself Antonio Guterres to continue to try and make the best out of the situation and that these setbacks do happen in peace talks.

Eide was making statements after a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and ahead of a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades following a meeting this morning between the two leaders which ended with Akinci leaving, a fact Eide acknowledged.

“The mood surrounding the talks was not optimal, I think that is not overstating it,” he said.
