CNA - Cyprus/NICOSIA 19/08/2014 20:46

The most fitting memorial to all who have lost their lives in Cyprus would be an agreement that would create a permanent peace on this island, US Ambassador in Nicosia John Koening has said, during an event to honour the memory of Ambassador Roger Davies and local embassy administrative assistant Antoinette Varnava, who were killed on August 19, 1974, 40 years ago today.

The Embassy Residence as of today is named “Roger Davies Residence” and the personnel lounge “Antoinette Varnava Lounge”.

In a statement read out during the event, US Secretary of State John Kerry said that the best tribute to Ambassador Davies and Antoinette Varnava would be to help Cypriots to find a permanent solution.
