Working hours increase during first quarter of 2016, with GDP reaching €4,124.6 million

The total number of workers during the first quarter of 2016 was 360,116, of whom 314,325 were employers and 45,791 self-employed, according to estimations released on Thursday by the Statistical Service.

During the corresponding quarter of 2015, the total number of workers was 354,368, with 309,800 employers and 44,568 self-employed.

Most workers, 62,226, (55,560 employees and 6,666 self-employed) came from the sector of Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and 34,169 from the sector of Public Administration and Defence, 34,039 workers (30, 923 employees and 3,116 self employed) from Accommodation and Food Service Activities sector, 28,271 workers (24,115 employees and 4,156 self-employed) from the Education Sector and 28.
