The shared commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the preservation of European values were reaffirmed during a meeting on Monday in Nicosia between President Nikos Christodoulides and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Alain Berset, according to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis. The President “underlined” the importance the Republic of Cyprus attaches to promoting a solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN Security Council resolutions, while also highlighting “the unacceptable detention” of the five Greek Cypriots by the Turkish occupying regime, he notes.
