French President, Emmanuel Macron, has told staff of the aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' that their presence in the Mediterranean Sea has been decided to protect "our compatriots in the region - who amount to 400,000- our allies and our friends, with whom we have defence agreements, and especially Cyprus".
