The Nicosia Tourism Board Visits Cyprus Planetarium – Exploring Opportunities in Astro-Tourism and Regional Promotion

The Cyprus Planetarium, located in the village of Episkopeio just outside the capital, recently hosted an important visit by representatives of the Nicosia Tourism Board as part of a broader effort to explore new avenues of cooperation and promote regional tourism development through science and astro-tourism.

Leading the NTB delegation was President Mr. Theodoros Kringou, accompanied by Mr. Sotiris Christoforou and Ms. Angeliki Vasileiadou. The group was warmly welcomed and personally guided through the Planetarium's facilities by the CEO of the Cyprus Planetarium, who presented the vision and multifaceted offerings of the center.

During the visit, the delegation was introduced to the Planetarium's core experiences, starting with its immersive Dome Shows — spectacular full-dome projections that take visitors on a visual journey through space, offering both educational and entertaining narratives for audiences of all ages. They also explored the Planetarium's Virtual Reality Hall, where 360° films offer visitors the chance to experience the cosmos in a fully immersive, interactive digital environment.

Educational opportunities were also highlighted, including astronomy classes and courses designed for both beginners and advanced learners, along with thematic exhibitions covering space exploration, the solar system, and the mysteries of the universe. These exhibitions are open to the public and aim to spark curiosity and provide engaging, science-based content for visitors. The delegation concluded their tour at the Planetarium Café — a tranquil spot within the venue offering fresh snacks and drinks, ideal for relaxing after exploring the wonders of space.

This visit marked an important step toward establishing collaborative initiatives between the Cyprus Planetarium and the Nicosia Tourism Board . Discussions focused on promoting the Planetarium not only as an educational institution, but also as a key tourism destination capable of attracting both local and international visitors interested in unique, science-driven travel experiences. The potential to develop and expand astro-tourism in the region was a central theme — combining experiential learning with cultural exploration and creating new narratives for tourism in the Nicosia countryside.
