Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos to be Awarded Honorary Doctorate by the Hellenic Open University
The University of Cyprus is honored to announce that Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos, of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University (HOU). The award was unanimously approved by the Senate of HOU in its January 2026 session.
In the detailed rationale supporting the decision of both the School Assembly and the Senate, it is emphasized that the distinguished scientist Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos has consistently played an active and substantive role in strengthening the relationship between science, society, and the environment. The Senate’s resolution makes particular reference to Dr. Fatta-Kassinos’ contributions in areas related to sustainable water management, public health, and resilience to health crises, as developed through her scientific, research, and academic activities.
The Senate further noted that Professor Fatta-Kassinos’ expertise, experience, and international recognition are expected to contribute meaningfully to the academic development of the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University, within the broader framework of enhancing the School’s international outreach and academic profile. The honorary degree will be formally conferred during the Spring Days celebrations of HOU in April 2026.
