Πρόκειται για συντριβή ή ανατίναξη; Οι Βρετανοί σπεύδουν να θέσουν υπό τον έλεγχό τους την έρευνα, καθώς το αεροσκάφος είναι ένα βρετανικό Comet 4Β. Προτού καν περισυλλεγούν όλες οι σοροί, διαδίδουν ότι πρόκειται για ανατίναξη οφειλόμενη σε βόμβα με στόχο τον στρατηγό Γεώργιο Γρίβα-Διγενή, το αντίπαλον δέος του Μακαρίου. Μολονότι ο Διγενής δεν επέβαινε στο αεροσκάφος, η Ιστορία και οι συγγενείς των θυμάτων υιοθετούν τη βρετανική θεωρία.
Μισό αιώνα αργότερα, από ένα καπρίτσιο της τύχης, ο δημοσιογράφος Στρατής Λεονταρίτης αρχίζει να ερευνά την υπόθεση. Τότε ανασύρει και το Ημερολόγιο ενός ανθρώπου που ανήκε στο στενό περιβάλλον της βασιλικής οικογενείας της Ελλάδας, του επίσης δημοσιογράφου Ιάσονα Σπανίδη.
