Without a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue, there can be no sustainable de-escalation in the Eastern Mediterranean, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms Raffaele Fitto said on Thursday, during the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg, in a debate entitled “Escalatory incidents in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean following persistent Turkish provocations”.
